Do you karaoke?

karaokeballad.jpgI've realised that girls fall into three karaoke camps. Those who can actually bloody sing and everyone is really really jealous of. Those who refuse to do something as silly as karaoke and sulk in the corner, and then there's the other camp. The camp which I believe both of your lovely Dollymix editors fall into. The "I'm not singing! No! Not singing!...oooh cocktails... Give me the microphone, it's MY solo!" camp. So, do you karaoke?

What women want?

2165411154_7058f0ae06_m.jpgOver at collaborative site Soycberty, Rodallega has bravely tried to answer the age-old question of "what do women want in a relationship?":

"Women like to be complimented on both their looks and their intelligence. I'm sure you've heard the question "Do I look fat in this?" before, most men have.

The reason they ask this is that they need to know that YOU still find them attractive regardless of what they think or anyone else thinks. They just need positive reinforcement from their partner to feel better about themselves."

How true is this for you? Are trust, intimacy, respect and positive reinforcement the standard, or is there something missing? And does it differ from woman to woman? Some women I know want someone who "won't be bothered by the fact that I probably earn more than them". Some want acres of personal space, while others like to be joined at the hip with their other half. One friend's entire relationship is based on the understanding that her boyfriend will never, ever request or offer a foot massage (she's a bit phobic).

So what about you? Take our poll and contact us to let us know what you want out of a relationship:

Are you embarrassed to order a beer? Bittersweet seem to think so

beerdollymix.jpgI like beer. If I'm honest, there isn't much that I won't drink. I'm certainly not an "only drink Rioja" kind of girl. And I like the taste beer, yes, actually like it. I even drink ale every now and again (I'm from the countryside). But it does come with a certain stigma attached, doesn't it? Nothing ruins the effect of a ball gown like holding a pint of Stella.

Dollymix poll: would you have a baby with your best friend as a last resort?

I had thought it was the stuff of fantasies and Friends reruns - having a baby with a male pal if you were still single at 35.

But writer Katy Regan did just that, as she writes in the Daily Mail:

"We'd had the drunken conversation: 'If I don't meet anyone by 35, will you have a baby with me?' But at 29, I thought I still had time to meet 'the one'. The trouble was, my attempts at dating other men were half-hearted. Louis may not have been Mr Right, but I couldn't quite pull myself away."

Dollymix poll: Are you making New Year's resolutions for 2009?

It's 2009! Woo!

Welcome to the future! Check out that dude with the jetpack! And how about those eco-friendly hovercars? Huh? Huh?

Well, okay. Maybe it's not the future with a capital F (although I am holding out some hope that in a year we'll all have dolphins in our living rooms like Roy Scheider did in the film 2010), but it is a fresh start and, after a long look at how 2008 went, many of us are
committing to a fitter, happier 2009.

But this BBC article reckons that making new year's resolutions could be bad for your health.

Paul Farmer, the chief executive of mental health charity Mind, worries that concentrating on our bad points can make us feel so bad about ourselves that we set unrealistic goals and compound our feelings of inadequacy when we don't reach them.

Dollymix poll: are you going to your office Christmas party this year?

This Friday, the London Ambulance service (LAS) is setting up a "drunk tent" behind Liverpool Street station to treat office party over-indulgers in an effort to keep them out of hospital.

"The reality is that someone who is drunk doesn't need a hospital bed. Not when there are true sick people out there waiting for an ambulance," says Mr Lesslar, duty station officer for City and Hackney.

The tent is actually a field hospital - the kind they use in war zones or in areas of natural disaster.

Which is fair enough - office parties can qualify as both.

Lying about lateness

One of my favourite things to read of a morning is Annie Mole's excellent London Transport blog - Going Underground.

I found her latest post particularly interesting, discussing the latest TfL survey in to commuter lateness to work. I was surprised to note (as was Annie) that despite some truly horrendous service on many lines in the morning rush, TfL cheekily conclude that out of the 1000 people interviewed for the survey "half of those who were late lied about the reasons why", most blaming public transport or bad traffic.

More after the jump:

Question: music at work - essential or annoying?

When I was studying for my GCSEs, I remember hearing someone on the local radio station discussing the merits of listening to music during revision sessions. I needed no further reason to whack up the volume on OK Computer and The Fat Of The Land (have you guessed the year yet?), and since then I've always played music while I worked.

It's fine when you get to choose the tunes yourself, but what if you're one of many in a workspace? The factory I worked at in school holidays would never budge from the local dance music station, and subsequent offices have kept strictly to one channel, usually the one with five ever-repeating tunes.

Smell like Kelly Brook! Or Kate Moss! Jordan! Yay!

rex_821337f.jpgI'm a bit muddled by all of these celebrity smellies. I've seen three adverts for Kate Moss' Velvet Hour this morning. Three! Do you want to smell like Kate Moss? Do you really? Fags and stale champagne? Yeah, I'm sure in reality it smells lovely. But why has everyone gone perfume mad? There's a new one released each week (yes, Ms Brook I'm looking at you) and Jordan seemingly has a different smell for each day of the week.

But does it matter if a celeb is behind the smell? Will you buy a fragrance just because someone famous is behind it? Tell us what you think over the jump.

Friday Question: Is Rebound Sex ever a Good Idea?

useacondom.jpgAs it's nearly a week on from "the break-up" I'm now quite enjoying the novelty of single life. At least four people have told me I need to "get back in the saddle" (not my choice of phrase I assure you). Apparently getting laid is the best way to mend a broken heart.

So, what do you guys think? Is rebound sex ever a good idea? Tell me what you think in the poll over the jump!
