Friday fun: Buffy vs Edward from Twilight video

If, like me, you quite liked the Twilight movie in a teenage fangirly way, but wished that Bella had been a little less passive and mumbly and more kick-ass, then you're in for a treat.

This brilliant mashup video shows what might have happened had Edward Cullen tried his intense-starey, slow-talkin' shtick on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Watch and learn, Stephenie Meyer, watch and learn:

Confessions of a paper-based romantic

Anyone who spends any amount of time with me will know that there is a little space in my heart that will always be reserved for a good notebook.

Perhaps it is because I'm an old romantic at heart, or perhaps it's because me and Microsoft Word have a...strained relationship at best, but I've always found that I manage to put down all the stuff and nonsense I carry around in my head best when I have pen and paper to hand.

I'm not particularly fussy, either. I love the glittery spiral-bound notebook I bought at a car boot sale when I was twelve just as much as the fancy-pants Moleskine journal I cart around nowadays. And don't even get me started on typewriters. My Dad had to ban me from buying the things from junk shops and jumble sales when I was a Jack Kerouac-obsessed teenager because I kept messing up my bedroom carpet with the ink from the ribbons.

So, its not all that surprising that I've fallen in love with the rather wonderful blog Strikethru.

Monday Question Time-has everything about you always been so sexy?

Sexy People image.jpg

Sometimes I sit down and wonder what I could have achieved in my life by now if I wasn't constantly becoming distracted by the massive time gobbler known as the Internet. I love the Internet. I love the weird distractions it manages to throw in your direction, mostly when it is Sunday afternoon and you've got a feature to file by 9am the next morning. Instead of being good, making myself a cup of tea and actually getting down to some work yesterday, I managed to get bogged down in what is arguably one of the best blogs I've seen in ages, the rather amazing Sexy People.

Someone Once Told Me

Later this week, I'm taking part in the brilliant photography project Someone Once Told Me. The concept is simple: Mario takes photos of his subject, with a pad showing what someone once told them. The results are beautiful and often profound.

I can't wait to be part of the project on Thursday. To give you a taster, Mario Cacciottolo has let us run amok with his photos. I've made a very special Dollymix gallery just for you guys. Just click on the image below to see my favourites.

Quite literally AMAZING: Limited edition Barbies

Vintage-barbie.jpgYesterday's LA Times reported on the world's one and only Barbie Superstore, what is in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Five squillion square foot of pink, pink, pink, the centrepiece is the 'Casa de Barbie' - complete with life-size Barbie bedroom, Barbie beauty bars, and a Barbie catwalk for showcasing darling little Barbie outfits.

And that is all very well, but we are not interested in regular, vanilla Barbie today. Instead, we present the kitsch-tastic world of Limited Edition Barbies. Feast on the sheer magnificence of Timeless Treasures: 'Top Minx Scarlett O'Hara In The Dress Made Out of Curtains' Barbie, or 'Tippi Hedren Very Nearly Meets Her Death In The Birds' Barbie. There is a sort of wonky genius to them...

There's a Games Festival going on in London at the moment. The name? It's accurate at least: The London Games Festival. The Fest has a Fringe, and as part of that Fringe (which is mainly happening this week) a tournament for female gamers was held last weekend. I asked one of the organisers to share some of her memories of the day. Here's what the mysterious 'thinkmakeplay' had to say:

"Sexist!" they squeaked. "Where are the vowels?" "The logo stinks!" "They should be at home playing with Barbie" "They'll be doing Sims all day" "A baking contest would be more productive" "Are they SERIOUS?"

Well, we were having serious fun. Despite the excited rants from blogs and social gaming sites around the world when the press release for Grl Gmr Tournament was announced, 26 enthusiastic young women came to The Rocket on Holloway Road on 25th October 2008, to compete in a gaming pentathlon - Wii Tennis, Tekken, Unreal Tournament, Mario Kart and Kuri Kuri Mix.

GALLERY: Which witch is which?

Witches have had something of a rough ride throughout history, so it's good to see that the original all-powerful women are getting better press these days. No longer typecast as pure evil, we're starting to realise that witches are complex creatures with the same wants and needs of any woman...

Click on the pic to see our gallery of on-screen witches and rate their scariness!

Top 5 females we'd like to see as the new Doctor Who

So, David Tennant is going to leave after one more year as the Doctor. Who should be the next incarnation of the last Timelord? I don't know about you, but I really hope it's a chick. Obviously it won't be. But what if it could be? If that was possible? Here are five people Dollymix would like to see brandishing a sonic screwdriver in 2010...

Top 5 women in horror films

Carrying on with this week's horror/Hallowe'en theme then, I thought we'd have a look at some of the better representations of women in scary films. As ever, these are just my opinion - and I'm just one woman; one woman trying to make a difference. Let us know your nominations for great women in horror, together we're stronger.
