Valentine's Day isn't all red roses and public displays of affection (or PDAs as the poor witnesses like to call them) - for some, it's yet another date in the diary to remind us of the ex.
Whether it's remembering a great February 14th you once had together or feeling relieved that that relationship is well and truly over, there's no escaping a trip down memory lane on the red-heart-filled day of love. Sorry about that.
For those who are busy living the single life, we've put together our list of the top five break-up songs so you can either wail along and think about the one you thought was The One, or dance about and celebrate your freedom from Mr Wrong...
Adele - Someone Like You
Quite possibly the most famous break-up song of all, this recent hit from superstar songstress Adele was written about her ex, and is as moving as it is relatable. Hats off to the girl for making a success out of a sad situation - it's definitely worth a singalong in our books.
Kelly Clarkson - Since You've Been Gone
Feisty, full of attitude and perfectly shouty, this song by the American Idol winner is ideal if you're mentally sticking your fingers up at an ex this Valentine's Day. 'You had your chance, you blew it. Out of sight, out of mind'. We couldn't have put it better ourselves...
Beyonce - Single Ladies
If only for the dance, Beyonce's girl-power track is right up there as a contender for the best break-up song. From the fiercer side of the album I Am... Sasha Fierce, this number tells the guy that doesn't want you, but doesn't want anyone else to have you, exactly where to go. And no, it's too late for a trip to the jewellers...
Justin Timberlake - Cry Me a River
This ex Mickey Mouse Club member is thought to have based the lyrics of this song on his break-up with Britney Spears. Ouch. He and the pop princess split in 2002, and it wasn't long before this heartfelt single was released and we found out Justin is just a big softie - we wouldn't be so quick to break his heart, that's for sure.
Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know
A rockier take on the break-up ballad, You Oughta Know has been speculated to be written about a number of men in Alanis' personal life - who knows, maybe it's a collective ex-bashing? With lines that might make you blush and enough raw anger in her voice to squash any man who dared hurt her, this is a great one for the karaoke machine if you need to vent.
