We're a little wary of referring to the illustrious Miss Piggy as a "woman" after the BBC's panda-gate kerfuffle at the start of the year, but given the overwhelming joy at today's news that The Piggy herself will be co-presenting this year's BAFTAs, we thought we'd chance it. After all, can you think of anyone more stylish or lovable to take on the role of official red carpet host?
And as we Miss P is said to be already brushing up on her flirting skills as she prepares to squeeze her trotters into a pair of fabulous shoes and steal the limelight from such celebrated A-listers as Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Michael Fassbender and more. In characteristically modest style, Miss Piggy is convinced that the stars will be barely able to contain themselves with excitement at the prospect of meeting her. ''Naturally, I will be asking questions that only moi would dare to ask", she added in a rare interview with the Telegraph.
Mingling with the stars is clearly where Miss Piggy belongs, having worked her way up from being a minor character on The Muppets (although she'd never admit it) to being the centre of attention at all times. Hopelessly deluded yet eternally optimistic, it's Miss Piggy's belief in herself that has got her where she wanted to be. Who cares that she's a little on the flabby side? In the 30-or-so years she's been appearing on screen, Miss Piggy (or "Piggy Lee", to use her real name) has been editor of Vogue Paris, sung with Dolly Parton, written her own best-selling book Miss Piggy's Guide to Life and become a household name everywhere.
Here are some famous quotes from Miss Piggy, which sum up why we can't help but love her:
"When you are in love with someone you want to be near him all the time except when you are out buying things and charging them to him." (so true - Ed.)
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it may become necessary from
time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."
"Express your feelings all the time unless you're trying to hide something."
"Never eat more than you can lift"
"The early bird gets the worm - which is what he deserves"
