If you've just paid your yearly tax bill and thought it was a biggie, imagine being TV presenter Miquita Oliver today. The 27-year old, who has worked on Channel 4 and Radio 1, has been urged to declare bankruptcy to HMRC, to whom she is said to owe £174,514.47 in unpaid taxes.
A statement from the Revenue said: "Due to the fact this amount had not been collected by the due date set by HMRC a Bankruptcy Order was issued to Miss Oliver in respect to the mentioned amount on 11 November 2011".
According to Oliver's publicist, Oliver now has her finances under control, but only in so far as she has already declared herself bankrupt. 'We can confirm that Miquita Oliver filed for bankruptcy in November 2011.
The move will come to a huge blow to Oliver, as she now faces a difficult financial future at a young age. On a day-to-day level, being bankrupt means being unable to obtain any sort of credit, or to use anything but the most basic types of bank account. All her assets will be sold to pay back creditors, and she will be unable to trade under any name.
