Adele's middle finger salute at the Brits is nothing compared to this...

memorable-brits-moments.pngPoor Adele was clearly worried that her rude gesture at the Brit Awards 'Suits' was going to land her in the doghouse with fans last night, but we really think she needn't have worried. Support for the singer was overwhelming this morning, with many viewers complaining instead that Blur's extended come-back at the end of the show was a far riper candidate for the chop than Adele's acceptance speech. And on that note, I'm saying no more...

So to show a little support for Adele and her completely understandable reaction to such a rude interruption, let's look back over the awards ceremony moments that were truly deserving of a raised eyebrow...

1. Jarvis Cocker vs. Michael Jackson

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, himself partial to a bit of non-verbal swearing caused a stir at the Brit Awards in 1996 when he staged a one-man protest against Michael Jackson's overblown and messianic rendition of Earth Song. So seized by the absurdity of it all that he couldn't contain himself, Cocker leaped on stage and performed a variety of lewd actions before being wrestled from the stage. While some found his actions puerile at the time, it's probably fair to say it was uphill for Jarvis and downhill for Jacko ever since.

2. The KLF machine gun the audience

Fans of 1990s acid house/art rock movement The KLF knew to expect anything and everything from their live performances but there were certainly a few unsuspecting audience members terrorised by the duo's infamous machine gun stunt at the Brits in 1992. Frontman Bill Drummond fired blanks into the audience during a rendition of 3am Eternal, before being awarded up the coveted Best Band award, which he and co-troublemaker Jimmy Cauty allegedly sent a motorcycle courier to collect. Rumours that the band had also deposited a dead sheep outside the venue have never been substantiated...

3. The Fox and Fleetwood fiasco

In 1989, the event's organisers made the incomprehensible decision to hire former page 3 model Sam Fox and Fleetwood Mac rocker Mick Fleetwood as compares. What could possibly go wrong? Well...in a word, everything. The resulting show was pure car crash telly from start to finish, with missed cues, botched introductions and the complete omission of several key items in the programme, including an acceptance speech from some dude called Michael Jackson. Sam Fox later commented: "I wanted the floor to swallow me up". Check out the following video clip to appreciate just how chaotic it all was:
