Iconic Women: Ruby Wax

ruby-wax.jpgWe were a little sad to hear the news that Ruby Wax had apparently pulled out of Celebrity Big Brother just a day before the show was due to start; not least because a quick glance at the final line-up reveals that the majority of female housemates are now famous for 'being glamour-models' of one sort or another. Hardly a recipe for the sort of stimulating entertainment we were hoping for in the presence of a world-class comedienne!

Former housemate John McCririck spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about Wax's non-appearance on the show and put it in even stronger terms: "I'm very, very sad indeed, I was in the house yesterday doing some filming. One likely contestant was going to be Ruby Wax. I think she would have been fantastic. Great comedian. If anyone had taken her on, you can imagine what would have happened. But I don't think Ruby is going in. Very, very sad not to have Ruby Wax in.

I think we get the gist. So why are we all so very, very sad not to be watching Ruby Wax?

Wax is a legend of comedy, one of the most successful women comics in what remains a man's world. More than 'just' a comedienne, she also makes full use of her psychology degree in her role as a leadership coach and communication specialist, and throughout her media career, has just brought heaps of fun and enthusiasm to our screens. Never falling into stereotypical roles for women in the spotlight, Wax created her own larger-than-life image, with outlandish amounts of red lipstick to match her wild hair. And that lipsticked mouth has never been shy of making a pertinent comment...She is pure CBB gold!
