The government has been doing a lot in recent years to encourage healthy eating. They introduced the traffic light system on food packaging, asked fast food places and restaurants to display the calories of their dishes, and campaigned for us to exercise more. There was also talk of a fat tax.
But obesity levels are still on the rise. Is it really the government's responsibility to make us eat healthier? Realistically, we all know that dinner at McDonalds or Pizza Hut isn't going to be the low calorie option. And we know a workout will help us fight the bulge.
So is it time for us to start taking more responsibility for our own actions, rather than expecting a nanny state to make us slim? Or should the government go ahead with a fat tax, and encourage food suppliers and restaurants to sell smaller portions?
