YAY OR NAY: grown-up girls

are-you-a-woman-or-a-girl.pngAre we 'women' from the moment we turn 18, or will you be OK with being called a 'girl' well into your retirement? Is the word 'girl' when used to describe adults flattering, patronising or neither? Does it depend entirely on who is using the word and where or how it's uttered?

All these and more are questions that divide the species, and I find it fascinating how different *ahem* female people respond. So without wishing to bias the results, I'd love to know how you feel about being referred to as a girl. ('Boys' are excluded for the purpose of this poll, I'm afraid, but please do comment if you have a view!)

Totally depends on who calls me a girl. Friends and family? Fine. Men and anyone work-related? Patronising. I guess if I want to be taken seriously I'd rather be a 'woman', whereas I'm happy to be a 'girl' when having fun.

That all said, I don't mind at all whether people call me miss, ms or madam.
