Do you know how hard it is to find a Halloween costume that doesn't involve me flashing my undercrackers? Really, really hard. Even witch costumes are distinctly lacking in material these days.
Anyway, it's not an absolute lost cause. There are some costumes out there for those of us who prefer a more ladylike, or at least comedic, costume. And taking inspiration from the literary world is definitely the way to go. A little bit of Dorothy, a sprinkle of Wonderland or a dusting of Shakespeare and you've got yourself a costume that leaves your dignity intact.
