Over in the USA, MTV shoe Jersey Shores is hugely popular. It's a bit like The Hills. If The Hills was trashy. Well, trashier.
Anyway, Jersey Shores follows a group of housemates in Miami enjoying their summers together. They have names like Snooki and The Situation. The latter even has his own iPhone app.
Seeing as we gave them Skins, Shameless and The Office, they've decided to export the format over to us.
Ladies and Gentleman, I give you....Geordie Shores.
According to MTV UK's director of television Kerry Taylor, Newcastle was chosen as the location as "it is always summer", "no one wears a coat" and "Geordie girls are always out in their miniskirt".
Quite.
I'm fairly sure this will be a Geordie version of The Only Way Is Essex. Which, considering how it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, is perfectly fine with me.
