While reading the new issue of Cosmopolitan, I came across an interview with a group of anonymous men, who were asked about contraception. The answers given by the men were pretty shocking. The men, all in their late twenties, confessed that the majority of them only use condoms if the woman asks them too. This is despite the fact they admit condoms are the safest form of contraception.
They then went on to admit that they felt it was the woman's responsibility to deal with contraception, as "women get pregnant."
The most shocking part of the interview for me was when one of the lads confessed "If you're a lad, you get a high five if you don't wear a condom. I know that's shocking but it's the truth. That's how a lot of men are."
I'm hoping these guys are in the minority, but it's concerning to see the cavalier attitude they have to their own health and the health of their partners.
The boys also seem to have some odd ideas about STDs, with 'Harvey' saying "If a girl's good-looking, we assume she's STI-free"
*Head desk*
It should probably be noted that the one guy in the group who has a girlfriend, is the one guy who is happy to use condoms. ..
So, are these guys in the minority? Or are women generally expected to take responsibility for contraception?
