Apparently, Amir Khan has claimed that Cheryl Cole's relationship with dancer Derek Hough is nothing more than a sham to "keep the photographers at bay", after dining with the couple. This seems rather odd to me, as barely a minute seems to pass without a new photograph appearing of the pair ostensibly enjoying their burgeoning relationship. The last thing I would have thought Cheryl should do if she wants to be left in peace by the press is to be out and about holding hands with a man.
Then it struck me that there is probably more to this than meets the eye or Cheryl is prepared to admit, maybe even to herself. Perhaps Cheryl is simply afraid to be seen alone, as if single status would somehow mark her out as a failure. If this is the case then I feel very sad for her and wonder if it was that kind of attitude that saw her leap into marriage with someone as clearly unworthy as Ashley Cole.
If Cheryl was a friend of my I would advise her to drop Derek the beard and go it alone. There is no shame in being single and enjoying life on your own terms. In fact, it is a darn sight more admirable than being stuck in a relationship with a man who is quite happy to make a fool of you time and again. Abbey Clancy, take note. Slap on a big fat smile, stand tall as a single woman and show the world what you are really made of, Tweedy! We don't need our relationships with men to define us.
