Don't hate me because I'm beautiful: Modelfeed and Work That Wardrobe

elin.jpgQ: How many models does it take to write a blog?

A: Twenty-three.

At least it does for the 23 models at ModelFeed, "an international collaborative blog sharing the real lives of models as they do their thing".

ModelFeed's tagline is "not made up", and it's really not - models from all across the globe post photos, videos and text about their adventures, passions and food (yes, food!).

Very little of the Next Top Model-style snarking is evident here, although some models are a little more fond of themselves than others (but that's just as common amongst bloggers who aren't a million feet tall and fill a minus-value dress size).

Come over the jump to read more about about the blogger who's pledged to NOT buy any clothes for a full year....

A lot of ModelFeed's content is fabulous (models tend to spend a lot of time in exotic locations), frivolous (long waits between photo shoots must be tedious), but the vibe is generally fun and "look at where I am!" rather than "look at who I am!".

And then there's the odd fashion tip:

"I recently found a beautiful vintage coat in Hoxton, London. With its unique character came that infamous musty vintage-shop smell. So I did a little research and apparently if you put it in the freezer for a week... the smell will go away! Here it is nestled gently next to the ice cream. Fingers crossed!"

ModelFeed - how the other sixteenth live. Surprisingly normal.

In July 2008, Liverpudlian writer Jane Gallagher took a long look at her finances and realised that

  1. She spent more than she had
  2. Most of it went on clothes

So Jane pledged NOT to buy any new clothes for a full year, and started the blog Work That Wardrobe.

Every day she posts photos of her outfits, which she craftily pulls together from existing items in her wardrobe plus clothes she swapped or paid for with vouchers or the PayPal credit from selling her own clothes on eBay.

Jane only has 52 days to go, and to keep herself motivated she's started a list of things she will buy when her quest is over, and sets little challenges for other bloggers (three different looks for the same skirt, etc.).

Go now and check out her blog! It's made me look at my wardrobe (and flagrant fashion overspending) in a whole new light.
