Yesterday, I got sent a press release about Boris Johnson. That doesn't happen very often. You see, part of his pre-election campaign focussed on saving London's only rape crisis centre. He promised to fund it for the next four years. He also promised to open three more centres across the capital. None of that has happened yet. Now, the possibility of him reneging on this promise looks possible. So what can you do to help make sure this doesn't happen?
The campaign are putting on a cabaret show next week to raise money and awareness for the cause. So what can you expect? Everything from comedy to burlesque is going to be going on. One minute you'll be sitting and laughing along to Josie Long, the next you'll be watching the fabulously named Ophelia Bitz shake her thang. Yes, I just said 'thang'. Excited yet?
The event is on Thursday 4th June. It's free, and it's at the wonderful Resistance Gallery in Bethnal Green. They're asking party-goers to write a letter to the London Assembly and the mayor while you party and honestly, I can't think of a better reason to go out. This is a hugely important cause and you'll find me there writing a very stern worded Dollymix letter. The rape crisis centres are vital and Boris made everyone a promise that he can't be allowed to break. It's just not on.
