It's Wednesday, the apex of the working week is upon us once more, it's two weeks til Christmas Eve but for me Christmas has come early, with the news that my most favouritest band ever from the nineties are coming back!
- Blur to reform - yes! Yes! Properly, with original member Graham Coxon and everything! This is the best news I've heard in ages! Perhaps it's time for me to put those 52 posters (mainly of Damon and Alex) back up in my bedroom and rejoin the fan club? Am I getting too excited about this? Screw you boring Oasis, hahaha! I'm making a Blur playlist on iTunes right now.
- Bye bye Bratz - you know those freaky looking dolls that teach little girls they have to dress like pop video dancers to be popular? It turns out creator Carter Bryant thought them up while employed by Mattel, so the home of Barbie gets all the Bratz dolls plus $100 million for copyright infringement and breach of contract. Bratz: coming soon to a landfill near you...[thanks to The F Word for the link]
- Female audiences dictate film trends - it seems the movie business is shifting to harness the spending power of lady cinemagoers after female-focused films like "Sex And The City: The Movie", "Mamma Mia" and "Twilight" triumphed at the box office in 2008. Films to watch out for in 2009 include "Wendy and Lucy", starring Michelle Williams and "Doubt" with Meryl Streep plus loads of fluffy wedding flicks, though I'll personally continue to give those an exceptionally wide berth.
- And finally, A prescription-free Pill - Lambeth and Southwark PCTs will run a pilot scheme in 2009 to allow pharmacists to give the contraceptive pill to women without the need for a prescription. In the same way as the morning-after pill is obtained, women will have to undergo an interview with a qualified pharmacist, but what a great timesaver this could be - no more waiting around at the doctor's!
