I think the headline "Britney more popular than Obama" overeggs the pudding somewhat, but the Beeb's main point - that Britney Spears is the most searched term on the internet - rings a bell.
Wait - wasn't this in the news in 2000? Yes - apparently for seven out of the last eight years she's beaten serious academic research, porn and other celebrities to be the most typed name in the world. But why?
Come on - it's not like Britney lives a life of mystery and subterfuge, where her fans have to spend hours online searching for snippets of information about her. The poor girl's entire life is splashed over every glossy celeb rag going. She's even on Twitter! What are people searching for?
