Gay people in America? Can't adopt, can't get married, can't be seen to be gayly active on the telly. At least, that's the storm brewing in blogland over the handling of a lesbian storyline on Grey's Anatomy.
In short - Erica Hahn and Callie Torres got together on the show and made sweet lady love. Then Brooke Smith, who plays Erica, was fired and the relationship, which appeared to be going relatively well, is being ditched asap.
Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes was forced to issue a statement saying "Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian," but rumours abound that ABC executives may have been piling on the pressure - rumours not helped by the suggestion that they're also revising a new character's planned bisexuality.
Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy himself, managed a wonderful display of passive-aggressive irritation when asked about it on the Ellen show.
This is all so depressing that even Perez Hilton - he of Samantha Ronson "SaMAN" creation - is miffed. Blimey. Wasn't this week supposed to be all full of hope and stuff?
