GRL GMR TOURNAMENT 2008
There's a Games Festival going on in London at the moment. The name? It's accurate at least: The London Games Festival. The Fest has a Fringe, and as part of that Fringe (which is mainly happening this week) a tournament for female gamers was held last weekend. I asked one of the organisers to share some of her memories of the day. Here's what the mysterious 'thinkmakeplay' had to say:
"Sexist!" they squeaked. "Where are the vowels?" "The logo stinks!" "They should be at home playing with Barbie" "They'll be doing Sims all day" "A baking contest would be more productive" "Are they SERIOUS?"
Well, we were having serious fun. Despite the excited rants from blogs and social gaming sites around the world when the press release for Grl Gmr Tournament was announced, 26 enthusiastic young women came to The Rocket on Holloway Road on 25th October 2008, to compete in a gaming pentathlon - Wii Tennis, Tekken, Unreal Tournament, Mario Kart and Kuri Kuri Mix.
