Dolly Poll: Do you round down your 'magic number'?

partners.jpgI am troubled and slightly surprised by the stats that keep coming up about women rounding down the number of sexual partners they've had, and men rounding up. The explanation usually given, of course, is that women are still concerned about being judged as sluts while men are hailed as studs. It's a slippery topic, not only because of the double standard, but also because there's no absolute moral base to all this. I mean, is it better to have slept with a lot of people or not? Do we - as women - want to be praised for our liberated ways; admired sleeping around? Or do we want men to be pulled up? And who, really, admires a man who's had a lot of women? So many questions, but the one I have for you, ladies, is this: Do you, like so many women (in theory), underestimate the number of sexual partners you've had because you're worried about being judged?

Seriously - and I know it's not you that's coined the phrase or is even taking it seriously - what's 'magic' about it?!

I don't actually tell people my magic number. It's a little higher than I'd care to admit... but also, is it anyone else business? When you start seeing a guy, you don't tell him about every single person you've ever gone out with, why would you tell them about everyone you'd ever slept with?

Besides, men do it too.

Have your say: do you agree or disagree?
