Monday Question: Should couples seek out couple friends?

I've always found the idea of actively seeking specific kinds of friends a bit strange, and although I can see the appeal of a foursome where every person gets on with the other three, hunting down the perfect pair seems like an act of madness. Even weirder than actively seeking out a specific 'kind' of boyfriend or girlfriend.

On the other hand, it can be quite relaxing to hang out in a group where it feels like the friendships are balanced and symmetrical with no one just 'there for the ride'. Does that ever really happen though? What do you think about 'couple dating'? Have you ever tried it?

Oh god, what an absolutely horrendous idea! Your friends are your friends because you have built relationships up with them over the years. To actively seek out another couple because you happen to be in a relationship is just weird. What happens if you split up? Does this new couple you have found suddenly also dump you because you don't fit their demographic?
