Dolly Poll: Is the Anglophile glass ceiling worth the fight?
Rachel Johnson in the Times today notes that the glass ceiling is 'made of reinforced concrete', but it's far, far worse for women who don't live in the privileged western world. Johnson explains that four women's rights campaigners in Iran have just been sent to prison for six months. Women in civilised countries, though 'can do whatever they want, even with large families and multiple responsibilities, if they have enough drive'.
Is this true? And if it is, should we have to have that much drive? Are fewer women in power because we know there's more to life than being a career high-flier? And does none of that matter, when women are still financially penalised for starting a family?
