Autumn breaks: holiday ideas round-up

The Times has a list of hotels in London for under £100. If you want to visit the capital, September is a good time to come - not too cold, not too swamped in Christmas shoppers, and of course the amazing new Francis Bacon exhibition at the Tate Modern. The Hoxton Hotel flogs off rooms for £1 sometimes! Crazy!

...or how about a four-day break in Paris for £169, departing September 19th?

Lastminute.com remains a reliable source of two for one spa breaks, both in the UK and more exotic locations.

and Expedia have a 30% off hotels thing at the moment that mean you could get to Vegas for £414. I bet it's not raining there.

Greece is always warm. Head to Crete out of season and you'll find cyclamen and crocus everywhere. The Guardian recommends staying at the Ilios flats in Gerani, near to a "bamboo-fringed beach". It's £339pp for a week, including flights and transfers with Sunvil.

  • Last year we were swanning around in Style, we hired a classic vw camper van. We visited the Purbeck Hills and stayed on a campsite where you can have fires and BBQ's. We also travelled around the New Forest. The company is called South Coast Campers. This year we are going to a couple of festivals in one.
