fionashaw.jpgI've loved Fiona Shaw since I saw her in Three Men and a Little Lady. A great comic actress, but an even greater tragic one, as we saw from her brilliant performance as Richard II in the strange, spare, and wonderful film of the Shakespeare play (also unexpectedly starring the curly-haired one from Green Wing.) She's probably better known these days as 'Aunt Petunia' in the Harry Potter films, but this belies the fact that Fiona Shaw is a proper actress. She can be seen on stage as much as screen, playing (among other things) Celia in As You Like It, Hedda Gabler, Miss Jean Brodie and - memorably - Medea in 2000. And she's a director too. So you know what I think, but don't take my word for it - check out the overleaf. I've found a clip of her discussing her role as Winnie in Samuel Becket's 'Happy Days'.
