We're an aging society, and one day in the not too distant future, folks, old ladies will rule the world.
Everyone's talking about Ivy Bean today. She's the oldest woman on Facebook. She may even be the oldest woman ever. I exaggerate. She's certainly the oldest woman I've ever seen a picture of. Again, that may well not be true.
Anyway, Ivy Bean is 102. According to one report she has 'only nine facebook friends', but since this story hit the nationals that number's gone up to well over 200, and I think we can assume she's going to gather plenty more 'friends' pretty quickly. Yeah, everyone likes old ladies when they're on the internet.
Ivy's carers have set up a group called 'Oldest person on Facebook' where they post news, videos and pictures of Ivy. For example, you can watch Ivy compete in Bradford's Over-75 Olympics where she's said to have won gold in the frisbee throwing event. Asked about her hopes for the future Ivy says: "I am looking forward to receiving my next telegram from the Queen in two years time." Sounds like the Queen should get on the internet too, email only takes a second, you know.
So if your parents are struggling with the internet, tell them the story of old Ivy Bean. No one's ever too old for Facebook. But there's definitely an upper limit on Myspace.
