Dolly Poll: What do you think of the term 'catfight'?

dan1.jpgEliza Camahort has complained about the irritating term 'catfight' lately: "It seems like the people who say this are convinced that such kerfuffles only and could only happen amongst women, but I have to say: Believing that mostly means one has internalized the sexist messaging that terms disagreements between women as 'catfights' but between men as 'vigorous debate.'"

But it's cropping up everywhere at the moment, particularly thanks to the hotly anticipated casting of Cheryl Cole alongside Dannii Minogue on the X Factor judges' desk. What do you think of the term? Do you mind it when someone says 'get that girl a saucer of milk' or does it make you want to, you know, DROWN SOMETHING? For example.

a bloke at my writing group was writing as a female narrator and used the term 'catfight'. I said, 'a woman would just say fight.'
It's putting women down, making them seem like catty, spitting little animals.
Maybe we've got a reason to fight?
