James McAvoy.jpgIf there's one thing we love here at Dollymix (well, Gemma and me anyway) it's men having a little blub on screen. There's nothing quite like a grown man giving in to his emotions and getting all teary-eyed. And if you want to be sure that we'll all leave the cinema in love, get the guy to well up when he thinks he might be losing his lady love. Because we all know what that means, right? It means he REALLY LOVES HER.

OK, I admit it's weak-brained, and not a little bit creepy to go all goey over the spectacle of a man in tears. If a man told you he got turned on by a woman crying, you'd think he was some kind of pervert. But women are much better at letting their emotions leak out from their eyes and seeing a man show a bit of vulnerability is almost as effective as giving him a puppy to carry.

And some actors are better at blubbing than others, with the tears springing to their eyes at the merest hint of emotional turmoil. So, without further ado, here's our pick of the very best crying male actors.

Matthew Fox.jpg10. Matthew Fox
He cried in Party of Five every. Single. Week. He cried in Lost. A lot. This man can cry. The guys over on Brandish have already noted his propensity for welling up. As has this guy. Shame I don't fancy him because that would be a serious amount of bawling for me to enjoy.

9. Bruce Willis
Willis is a master of the one-tear cry. A great example of this is in Unbreakable, where he cried one single tear for the love of his other half. What a guy!

7= Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake's a more experienced weeper than Ledger was, but Ledger must get a special mention for having that astonishingly brilliant body-wracking blub in Brokeback Mountain. Also, in this list at least, they get to be together forever. *Cries*

6. Leonardo Di Caprio
He did a great spot of agonised crying in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (though it's probably wrong to fancy a boy with mental disabilities even if he *is* crying). Then he came back all growed up, weeping in Romeo & Juliet like the tragic lovelorn suicidal teenager he was playing. The boy can cry. Sadly for me, he's another one who leaves me cold.

Joshua Jackson.jpg5. Pacey (Joshua Jackson) from Dawson's Creek
YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO LOVE ME, DAD! Cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And you know what else? He REALLY LOVED Joey. And he loved Dawson too. And Andie. He REALLY LOVED Andie.

4. Logan (Jason Doring) from Veronica Mars

Logan spent pretty much the whole of Veronica Mars either looking lost and sexy or angry and sexy. God I loved him. And he loved Veronica. He REALLY... you get the idea.

And I'll tell you what else I love, I love the internet and the sorts of people who spend their free time putting together clips of Jason Doring and Kristen Bell crying in Veronica Mars. Feast your eyes on this masterpiece. And god bless YouTube user Alanna823 for putting it together

James Franco.jpg3. James Franco
Franco's such a pro at welling up on cue that he's created a comedy masterclass for his younger brother to try to emulate him. There's a great montage of his best crying moments - including that scene in Freaks or Geeks when he puts on a great crying act to get out of trouble, and a scene in what must be his James Dean movie where he staggers out of the door wailing. Not sexy, but very funny.

2. Steve (David Eigenberg) from Sex and the City

Steve! How could you not love Steve?! He's geeky, he's kind, he's surprisingly ripped, he's constantly crying. Most recently seen blubbing his way through the Sex and the City movie whilst telling Miranda he loves her, he can also be seen blubbing his way through the Sex and the City TV series whilst telling Miranda he loves her. That man can CRY.
You can watch him getting all choked up here.

James McAvoy.jpg1. James McAvoy
Ah James! Everyone's second favourite Scottish actor who puts on an English accent (David Tennant being the first). He's already made the list for our top half-man half-beast crushes thanks to Mr Tumnus, and now here he is as a favourite cryer. McAvoy spent the entire second season of Shameless welling up and emotionally telling Fiona how much he loved her. His character, Steve, was either smirking and swaggeringly cocksure or red eyed, vulnerable and contrite. The perfect combo for any on-screen heart throb.

[Check out this cute clip of him proposing to Fiona - sans blubbing for a change]

Yes, I know I'm a bad human. Now I'm off to say some Hail Marys and shower until I feel clean again.
