Kylie - when should she stop?

kylie1.jpgThe Sun can always be relied upon for a solid headline pun, and this story is no exception. (For those of you who can't bear to look, it's "KYLIE MIN-OLD", I mean honestly. It doesn't even rhyme!) The gist is that Ms Minogue has had the nerve to suggest she might still be entertaining crowds at 60.

However, the red-top seems relieved to hear that although Kylie might be performing until she keels over, at least she won't be dressing up so extravagantly forever: "The showgirl and the feathers are behind me." But we have to ask: why should she stop? She's having a great time... isn't she? Tina Turner does alright in a pair of stout hotpants - but then Tina has a belting voice - something which can't quite be said for robo-toned Kylie. What's a Kylie without extravagance? And should she grow old gracefully or keep spinning around forever?

Kylie - when should she stop? - Comments

  • haha yes it's morbidly fascinating. I can't stop looking at kylie's right eyebrow.

  • Tricky one. I'm the last person to say a woman (or man for that matter) should get off the stage just for being old, but there is a certain breed of popstar whose whole appeal is their youth. I'm talking about the stars who don't particularly sing well, don't write their own songs, and whose appeal lies in their flashy stage shows and pert bum.

Then again, if you're watching someone prance around at 60, 500 feet away in some arena, you're not going to notice that her hands are covered in veins and liver spots.

Also, there's something vaguely hypnotising about seeing these older stars try to stay young by exercising to the point of sinewy, botoxed, rigor mortis. I quite like the spectacle of it.
