Are the blogging rules really written for men?

The woman writing that post was making a good point: if you're a good writer, you can write about what you had for tea and people will read it. But it seems to me that most people with blogs aren't good writers, and many don't really care about being widely read. Even a blog about one's dinner has certain parameters, a sense of distance and audience. But if you're not sharing information that's useful or entertaining to others, there's a certain sense to asking why are you sharing it at all? What do you think? Are the 'keep your distance' rules excluding women? Or just bad bloggers?
