The latest issue of Bust is pure magic. When it came through my mail slot (that's not a euphemism) yesterday, and I heard it hit the floor I was immediately on my feet. I was so excited as this is not any regular issue of Bust, oh no: It's the 15th anniversary special issue and, and it has Amy Sedaris on the cover. IN A CAKE. And there's an interview with Diablo Cody - with pictures. And if that wasn't enough, they even have a whole feature on the best of Bust, which they call their "Greatest Tits". (<3)
As I have a massive, long-running girl crush on screenwriter/blogger/Oscar winner Diablo Cody, I just had to share with you some of her kick ass quotes about feminism and working in a male dominated industry.
Read what Diablo Cody and Bust got to talking about after the jump!
On her critics who wonder how she can possibly be a self proclaimed "radical feminist" when she used to be a stripper:
"Have they never heard of Nina Hartley? There are a lot of educated, feminist sex workers. I'm certainly not in favor of the exploitative porn that's eating young women alive. I'm not a Joe Francis [producer of Girls Gone Wild] fan. But I think there is a healthy place in society for sex work. That is my personal opinion. I am very libertarian that way. I don't see any conflict between being a former stripper and being feminist."
On the lack of female directors:
"I think directing is a process of trial and error and a lot of women are trained to be terrified to make mistakes. Just based on the statistics we see coming out of classrooms where boys will raise their hands even if they don't know the answer., and girls won't. I think it's a symptom of American society that women are afraid to trip and fall. To be a director you have to be willing to take risks and fail. I hope more women realize they are worthy of that opportunity . Even if I made a colossal flop, it would be a risk worth taking. Guys make bad movies; why can't I?"
