Introducing: the best chick flicks of all time

clueless cher alicia silverstone.jpgTV's famous Susi Weaser and I were having a discussion the other day about chick flicks. She'd just been made to see 27 Dresses and *hated* it, which got us talking about what chick flicks we actually did like. I mean, everyone needs a break from art house Romanian abortion movies from time to time, right?

Well, Glam UK have done a handy round up of their favourite chick flicks, including some that I love and some that I would rather stab my eyes out than sit through.

Keep reading to see the full list.

There's something odd about watching films that are so clearly targeted to fit my demographic, possibly because the whole time I'm watching them, a large portion of my brain is screaming "stop watching this CRAP, arggh!" whilst another part is cooing "aww, they *really* love each other". I watch them on my own, in secret, (never at the cinema), with an equal mixture of glee and shame.

Check out Glam's list below:

1. Clueless
2. Legally Blonde
3. Pretty Woman
4. Bring it On
5. Mean Girls
6. The Notebook
7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
8. Waiting to Exhale
9. The Cutting Edge
10. The Sweetest Thing
11. Dirty Dancing
12. Sixteen Candles
13. When Harry Met Sally
14. Notting Hill
15. Bridget Jones's Diary
16. Charlie's Angels
17. My Best Friend's Wedding
18. The Devil Wears Prada
19. 13 Going On 30
20. The Wedding Planner
21. Shakespeare In Love
22. Sweet Home Alabama
23. Serendipity
24. Cruel Intentions
25. Wimbledon

So what do you think? Is your favourite missing? Any that you can't stand? Or does the very term "chick flick" send you into a whirlwind of rage?

Right, be prepared for my critical analysis.
1. Clueless - Totes. I bought the special edition the other day because I had a craving for it, in the same way sometimes I crave chocolate
2. Legally Blonde - Nosomuch. She's annoying
3. Pretty Woman - Definitely. Put it at 2.
4. Bring it On - I'm sexy, I'm cute, I'm popular to boot
5. Mean Girls - Surely a number one?
6. The Notebook - Katie, you're wrong. This film is the original cathartic crying flick
7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - In my top 3. You're so vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiin
8. Waiting to Exhale - Umm.
9. The Cutting Edge - Ditto
10. The Sweetest Thing - I don't look so expert now
11. Dirty Dancing - 11? Are you freakin' kidding me?
12. Sixteen Candles - ?
13. When Harry Met Sally - Is this a chick flick? I thought it had made the transition to 80s Classic
14. Notting Hill - Gah
15. Bridget Jones's Diary - Meh
16. Charlie's Angels - This should NOT be on the list.
17. My Best Friend's Wedding - I love it for not conforming to the happy ending
18. The Devil Wears Prada - It's not a classic
19. 13 Going On 30 - Totally. I loved this film. All of the versions
20. The Wedding Planner - Anything with Matthew McConaughey. Ever. Even Songs of Praise.
21. Shakespeare In Love - Non-classic. Shakespeare who?
22. Sweet Home Alabama - Hell no.
23. Serendipity - Ditto
24. Cruel Intentions - Not a chick flick.
25. Wimbledon - I also love Paul Bettany, so for that reason only, it can stay.

Where's all the High School Shakespeare adaptations? The late great Heath would be most upset to see a lack of 10 Things I Hate About You. Speaking of which, where the hell is A Knight's Tale? Choreographed dancing to David Bowie in Medieval costume? I've died and gone to heaven.

(I should probably written this as a follow up post, rather than a comment, shouldn't I?)

A few things:

Where the hell are Pretty In Pink and Ten Things I Hate About You?
The Sweetest Thing should NOT be in this list. Ugh
Bridget Jones and The Notebook should swap places, if the notebook makes it at all.
Cruel Intentions isn't really a chick flick.

Not sure if it falls under 'chick-flick' or not (though I say it does), but my favorite is Love Actually. I must've watched it 15 times, and I rarely do that. It's so over the top (really, PM falls in love with secretary and they kiss backstage at school play?), but it's incredibly sweet and funny and sad.

Also, I agree, Legally Blonde (both movies) is annoying.

Horrifying to admit this in public, but for all their faults, I love the Legally Blonde films. though agree Dirty Dancing should really be at number 1.

I would have to agree that the Taming of the Shrew adaptations are some of my favorites, 10 Things I Hate About You is up there, but I also like Deliver Us from Eva. And I think that The Prince and Me with Julia Stiles' character choosing med school over the prince is absolutely one of my favorites.
