temporaryhomedogs.jpgOne of the reasons you're seeing less of me on the Shiny network is because my day job is now writing all about pet welfare for a certain UK animal charity. One thing I didn't know about until I got here which is definitely DollyMix-friendly is the charity's Freedom Project.

Many women are frightened to leave an abusive relationship because of the possible repercussions on family members and pets. A violent partner might not hesitate to punish a dog when the usual victim is out of harm's way. By finding a foster carer and paying all food and veterinary bills, Dogs Trust's Freedom Project helps women leave dangerous domestic situations without having to worry about this. It's also a way that people can experience owning a dog without the long-term commitment. There's a video, and more information on who to contact if you're interested over the jump.

If you are interested in becoming a foster carer, visit the Dogs Trust website, call 0800 298 9199, email freedomproject@dogstrust.org.uk or write to Freedom Project, PO Box 50208, London EC1V 7XP.
