I was at SXSW Interactive last week and it was great, but the best sight was walking into the Video Game section of the show where the first thing I saw was the Frag Dolls playing Rainbow Six: Vegas. It was awesome! These women were up on a stage that was not pink, but orange and they were rocking the games. The Frag Dolls were competing against anyone who walked up to play and there was a long line of guys waiting to test their skills against these amazing women.
I love the Frag Dolls, the professional team of women video game players put together by Ubisoft to market their games through competition. The women in the Frag Dolls are lovely, but they also have fantastic game skills. They were undefeated at SXSW and the best part is these women played Shooters in an area where women were poorly represented.
The Frag Dolls are wonderful for women in gaming because they are visible and they aren't afraid of technology. In fact, when one of the Frag Dolls' opponents was having difficulty with his system the woman got up and fixed it. No problem. While the wage gap for women in technology is growing, I am glad to see women being technologically visible and making a positive impact.
