In other news, local woman will pay car park fine to avoid walking half mile in heels

She who can not walk a half mile in high heelsWhile there are some serious, serious things going on in the blogosphere - I believe this is probably the most serious of them all. Apparently Maxine Smith visits the Cromarty Firth Port Authority (CFPA) in Invergordon, Ross-shire, two to three times a week. During all of these visits, she makes the obvious, if not logical, choice of wearing uncomfortable high heeled shoes. Shockingly, Smith was asked to pay the same £50 that everyone else in the car park has to pay. The horrific alternative? Walking from parking outside the base.

The BBC reports that that Ms Smith owns "beauty salons in Invergordon and Fort William" and that she said that having to park outside the base is completely unreasonable as, "When you go into the base it is half a mile from the car park on the outside and, obviously as I am working, I am wearing a pencil skirt, jacket and heels." However, Ms Smith says that she will absolutely pay the extra £50 a month, and realizes that everyone must pay the same fee.

Obviously this is a story of utmost importance and we are all thankful to the BBC for reporting on how Ms Smith is going to pay a £50 parking fine after all, so she doesn't have to walk that half mile in her pencil skirt and heels.

Firstly, it's BBC not BCC. Second, why doesn't the stupid women wear flats to walk in and keep a pair of heels at work to change into? If a few people see you walking down the street in flat shoes it's hardly the end of the world.

"obviously as I am working, I am wearing a pencil skirt, jacket and heels."

Heh heh heh. Can't remember the last time I saw someone in high heels at work. But then I do work at the BBC! Perhaps thats why it was considered newsworthy by us?
