Grandmothers can now have their cake and eat it, too
The Guardian have an article today discussing how women who are grandmothers no longer have to sit at home knitting, and have a whole world of opportunities available to them. The Grannies of yore no longer seem to exist, and now most of the women becoming grandmothers are in the peak of their career. Jill Curtis, a grandmother of seven and psychotherapist, says:
"Women in their 50s and 60s are often at their career peak - but they don't want to miss out on being a grandmother. It's like a second chance, and they know how quickly the early years go by, so they're even more determined to make the most of it. You'd think women wouldn't want to be grandmothers because of what it meant in terms of growing older, but in fact I think that once their children are old enough, they long for it."
The article goes on to discuss how the new grandmothers are going wine tasting and living it up, which to me really reflects the positive changes that feminism has made in our society.
