Women in IT not supported by HR, wage gap in tech industry growing

women in techIt's a bad news day for women in tech. Apparently the wage gap between men and women in the tech industry is growing and men are making 12% more than women than they were last year. Feministing reports that:

"The survey found that salaries for men increased by 2.4% in 2007 but stayed flat for women. The average salary last year for men was $76,582, and for women, it was $67,507, according to Dice. The gap widened last year: In 2006, the difference between salaries paid to men and women was 9.7%."

Also, womenintechnology.co.uk have written that HR departments are apparently less supportive to women working in the IT, as compared to women who are line managers and colleagues. Microsoft and womenintechnology.co.uk have found that one "39 per cent of females polled rated HR departments as good or excellent", and 20% of the women said that their HR support was "less than okay".
