The media and Hillary Clinton: "I am woman, hear me cry!"
I am sick and tired of discussing Hillary Clinton's femininity. Is she too manly? Is she too cold? Too mean? Too butch? Too soft? Too emotional? I am just sick of it. Excalibur Online, York University's community newspaper has an excellent article called "I am woman, hear me cry" discussing everybody's different views of Hillary's emotions and femininity. The media has a flipping field day over Hillary "crying". Whether it was people saying this just proves she's too emotional to be president, or claiming that New Hampshire women only voted for her because she cried, nobody seemed to get how inappropriate it was to be examining Hillary's emotions and how her vagina effected them, rather than her fucking politics.
The author of the article, Asfia Tareen, points out that even feminist Susan J. Douglas of Michigan University claims that Hillary is just too manly. She says that Hillary "seems to want to be more like a man in her demeanor and politics, makes few concessions to the social demands of femininity and yet seems to be only a partial feminist". Douglas tops off her statement with, "She seems like patriarchy in sheep’s clothing." Wow. Power to the sisterhood. Douglas and Anna Wintour should totally do lunch.
