Whilst we may all already know that Anna Wintour is the devil's spawn, now I really hate her. The fantastilicious editor of Catwalk Queen, Kim Foster, reported that Anna Wintour was just kind of pissed off that Hillary Clinton declined a feature in Vogue during her campaign because she didn't want to come off too "feminine". Now, while I think it's truly sucks that she is afraid of seeming too feminine, after Tear Gate, it seems as though she may be smarter than Wintour thinks. Wintour wrote a seething editors letter in the February issue of Vogue, spitting,
"Imagine my amazement, then, when I learned that Hillary Clinton, our only female president hopeful, had decided to steer clear of our pages at this point in her campaign for fear of looking too feminine. The notion that a contemporary woman must look mannish in order to be taken seriously as a seeker of power is frankly dismaying."
"This is America, not Saudi Arabia. It's also 2008: Margaret Thatcher may have looked terrific in a blue power suit, but that was 20 years ago. I do think Americans have moved on from the power-suit mentality, which served as a bridge for a generation of women to reach boardrooms filled with men. Political campaigns that do not recognize this are making a serious misjudgment."
Oh, Anna. Fuck off.
Look. While I appreciate the weight of Vogue in the fashion industry, the rest of the world doesn't really give a shit. I think it's great that Wintour thinks that in this day and age, you shouldn't have to dress in power suit with shoulder pads to be taken seriously in the business world. But what Anna is missing is that clearly, the American public, and even American press really aren't over that whole misogyny thing. Therefore, if Hillary doesn't want to come off as being too feminine, why not just respect her decision and just assume she has a good reason behind all of it.
I know it must burn a whole in your ego to try and understand that some people would use Vogue as toilet paper if the pages weren't so thick and glossy - but they would. (And so would I!) I know it's hard for you to understand that Hillary probably doesn't give a damn about Vogue, but she sort of has other things to worry about.
And seriously, Anna. Don't rip on other powerful women's appearances. While Hillary's trade mark be awkward hairstyles and power suits, yours is a hideous bob, ridiculous goggle-like sunglasses, and a heart of lead. (Please don't have me killed.)
