I have been arguing Nicole Richie's corner for a long time and now I feel I can sit back and look smug whilst others sing her praise. Making a career through a reality TV show with BFF Paris Hilton may not put her in the best light but I have always found her to be very entertaining and kind. Now, mere weeks before she is due to give birth, the tiny LA star has done a good deed with her boyfriend and father of her baby Joel Madden.
The couple hosted a surprise baby shower on Monday at the Los Angeles Free Clinic in Hollywood where they gave away $200,000 worth of gifts. They have set up a charity, The Richie Madden Children's Foundation which they hope will make L.A. a better community, Madden explains, ""and we want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there's a responsibility to help the community."

"The looks on their faces were priceless," Richie told reporters after the shower. "Some of them didn't even believe us [when they saw the gifts]. They thought we were joking." It's not surprising considering that amongst the gifts were Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price. "Everything they got, we got," Richie says, "so everything that will be in their nursery, will be in our nursery."
Madden added, "Sometimes people don't want to believe that me and Nicole are just a young couple having a baby and we're really excited. We don't really get to share our lives with people. It's nice to connect with people on a real level."
