Isabelle O'Carroll doesn't have any wedding plans

isabellepic.jpgAm I alone in my age group in that I haven't planned my dream wedding yet? Almost all of my friends seem to have an opinion -and thankfully none of them are of the '1000 doves and white horse' variety otherwise I would have punched them by now- but I don't know/care what my future wedding day will be like. I can think of friends' weddings I have enjoyed but I refuse to be drawn into speculation of the matrimonial kind.

It's not that I never want to get married but it's just not that high on my agenda right now and if and when it is I doubt I'll want a Disney fairytale do. When female acquaintances tell me their dream wedding plans that they've been mulling over since childhood I have to stop myself from rolling my eyes and/or laughing. Omitting all the lovey stuff a wedding is simply an extravagant party, so can you imagine having a conversation with someone who had been dreaming of their 30th birthday party ever since they were knee high to a satin white slingback?

Isabelle O'Carroll wants to know what you think about weddings.

If you think it's bad now, wait till you hit 30! I have been to some great weddings that made me think 'this could be nice' and some really, utterly shocking ones that put me off the whole idea.

I do like the idea of having a wedding in principle, as I love 'doing' parties. But I suspect that when it came to actually looking into the minutiae of planning venues and caterers and working out which friends you dislike marginally more than other friends for invite purposes, I'd quickly get VERY fed up and unhappy about the naffness of it all. I tend to think that if you can't afford to do all this stuff without having to offend people, then you probably shouldn't be doing it at all. And I certainly never thought about weddings as a kid.
