I'm not sure what most ten-year-olds are dressing up in these days but when I was a young whippersnapper it was all about scrunch socks and woollen jumpers with smiley faces on them knitted by my Nan. So it puzzles me why Coleen McLoughlin would feel compelled to write a style guide providing tips on how to look glam, aimed at girls as young at ten.
The fiancée of England star Wayne Rooney has signed a new book deal with HarperCollins to write a series of children's books titled 'Coleen Style Queen', based on a fictional character inspired by her own childhood. The schoolgirl style books will feature fashion advice and beauty tips for tweens, whilst no doubt causing a tizz amongst parent groups at the same time.
McLoughlin already has a reality TV show Coleen's Real Style in the pipe works, but is this really the right next step for her? Being my favourite of the WAG gang, I'm hoping there is a reasonable explanation to all of this, but if not then I can't see how capitalising on young girls' already fragile attitude to appearance is helping them.
