Our woman in music this week is a Teutonic blast from the past, Hildegard Kneff. Upon her death in 2002 Dieter Kosslick, the director of the Berlin film festival described her as "the voice of Berlin and one of Germany's greatest international stars". Her outspoken demeanour and refusal to deny her past earned her the moniker of the 'thinking man's Marlene Dietrich'. Here is a clip of the throaty-voiced chanteuse singing in her native German as well as English and French.
