Santas in Sydney told not to say "ho, ho, ho" as it is "offensive to women"

santa_ho.jpgThe timeless tradition of Santas around the world merrily bellowing "ho, ho, ho" while their round little bellies shake like bowls full of jelly may be over. Yes, over. Why? Oh. Because it's not PC enough, that's why. Apparently in Sydney they have told Santas to not use the phrase as it may be "offensive to women" and "frighten the children". For those of you who may not understand why, let me explain. See, "ho" is a slang word for prostitute. For example, "OMG. I can't believe you slept with 10 guys in one night, you are such a ho."

Even Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids, says: "Gimme a break. We are talking about little kids who do not understand that 'ho, ho, ho' has any other connotation and nor should they. Leave Santa alone." And on a further note, are women really going to be suddenly offended when Santa says "ho"? I think not. I appreciate the forethought, but dear god. How ridiculously PC can you get?

'ho ho ho' isn't sexist--as It has nothing to do with the American slang term for prostitute.

I'm not seeing what the fuss is here.

It seems sexist to me that anyone would assume that women think someone is talking about them when they hear "Ho Ho Ho." Do we think so poorly of ourselves that we hear someone say that and feel badly?

When I first started hearing about HO HO HO being banned I figured it was because it scares the bejesus out of kids. No, much stupider than that!
