Today, the BBC made my morning with the following words: "Women with curvy figures are likely to be brighter than waif-like counterparts and may well produce more intelligent offspring." Apparently in a US study of 16,000 women and girls, they found that the curvier girls and their children did better in cognitive tests. Evolution and Human Behaviour researchers suggest that this has to do with the fatty acids found in the hips. (Or rather, the fatty acids found in the fatty asses.) The acids in our hips are said to be filled with Omega-3, which helps improve women's mental abilities, and therefore her child's if she's pregnant.
While it's great to think that sitting here on my ass eating chocolate chip cookies is going to make me smarter, I doubt it, and so does Martin Tovee of Newcastle University as she's says of the study: "On the fatty deposits being related to intelligence front, it's very hard to detangle that from other factors, such as social class, for instance, or diet." Well, it's nice to dream...
