david_cameron203_bbc.jpgUK opposition leader David Cameron addressed the Conservative Women's Organisation today, focussing on the issue of rape and sexual assault not just in terms of sentencing but also attitude.

Stressing that he was horrified that a high number of young men thought that there were situations in which it was permissible to force a woman into sex (perhaps they were reading idiotic arguments for 'grey rape'), he called for stringent sentencing coupled with sex education making it clear that there are no mitigating circumstances. He felt that the increasing sexualisation of society has lead to a "moral collapse", where treating women as objects is acceptable.

It's always interesting to see the ways in which politicians will court women's votes, but what makes this particularly notable is that it's a traditionally right wing party advocating proper sex education without pulling punches or ignoring reality. Republicans, take note...
