You want to be slimmer? A bit of Photoshop will help.

We've heard before how photo shopping yourself to look better has become standard practice, for children, for graduation photos, heck even those wedding snaps; after all you don't want your fondest memories looking to real do you- but what I've never heard of is photo shopping to lose weight. I'm talking actual weight, not just a pleasantly tilted mirror. I mean I know you can get cameras with 'slim' settings, and that's now a fairly common thing, but how does an image help you shed those pounds.

Well apparently paying for a picture of a slimmed down you will 'provide a powerful boost to motivation levels by showing the dramatic results you can achieve.'. The site, imaginatively entitled See yourself slimmer has testimonial from enthusiastic users saying, “With the aid of this picture and Lighter Life I have gone on to lose 3 stone”, and “You are a genius!! Thanks so much for the photo, my jaw dropped. This is such a positive way for me to lose weight”. sadly, had they been at all technical they could have done this at home for a tenth of the cost.

To be fair, they do only tout themselves as a slimming aid, and visualization is always a helpful tool, but this way people are only concentrating on the physical benefits of the weigh loss they'll achieve rather than the mental ones. Also, doesn't everyone have an odd 'skinny' photo or two lying around that they could place on the fridge themselves.. for free?

Well kudos to them for making money out of nothing, isn't that what all firms try to do anyway, provide a good or a service that we can't get/do for ourselves?

I am currently in the throes of losing weight - I've just been diagnosed with PCOS and finally the slow and steady weight gain I've experienced since I was 15 (despite being rather active) makes sense. With medicinal help and encouragement from my doctor and friends, I've upped the ante with my dancing, cycling, and general naughty food intake.

One of the best motivators I've had is a series of three pictures of myself in a bikini, at ages 16, 20 and 23. Finally I'm able to reverse the upward drift and am starting to look like my "20" picture again... Bring on 16!
