Women choose cats over kids, a survey reveals

800px-Girl_and_cat.jpgYou know how it is: you get to a certain age when you're financially secure, living independently and wearing clothes that don't come from Primark, when you start to have certain urges. They start small, and then build up till before you know it you've made the next big step in your adult life...to a full blown cattery.

No longer are mewling babies the perceived next step for the working women, now it's all cutesy kittens and fluffballs a la Bridget Jones. And this doesn't just apply to single spinsters downing the red wine, no, the average married woman is finding the idea of cats a whole lot more palatable than sprogs.

Yes, 58% of the cart lovers were married or co-habiting, with 72% in full time work, and 88% with no kids. Vicky Halls, a leading cat behavioral expert reveals, “I have actually known for some years that the stereotype was wrong since the majority of my clients are married or living with a partner. The majority don’t have children and are in full-time work. Is this significant? I think it is. These are not women biding time until they have a real baby without the fur. Whether we make the decision to pursue careers instead of families or remain childless for another reason we still need to perform the role of mother for which we were designed. A cat is fulfilling that need."

So there you have it. babies are out, cats are in. On the plus side you'll be able to sleep through the night but they won't really support you when you're older now, will they?
