After a break-up, sometimes the only thing that can cure the misery is a margarita a good song. Ya know, those songs where you're driving down the freeway half crying, half laughing like Tom Cruise in Jerry McGuire when he sings Free Fallin'. Here are the Shiny girls favorite "I'm better off without you, a**hole!" songs. Although I won't say who picked what. (Okay, I picked the first one.)
1.) Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
I think I've cried to this song more times than I'd like to admit. But how can you not? She destroys his apartment that he shares with his new girlfriend in the video! Freakin' genius. Best line? "How come I'd never hear you say / I just wanna be with you / Guess you never felt that way".
2.) Alanis Morrisette - You Oughtta Know
This song is filthy and twisted and raging. Exactly what one needs when you've been massively srewed over by your ex. Best line? And every time I scratch my nails / Down someone else's back I hope you feel it
3.) Natasha Bedingfield - Single
If you're single, this song is for you. Nothing is worse than when you're happy about a break-up and everyone else just simply cannot wrap their mind around the fact that you're okay. Best line? Everything in it's right time everything in it's right place / I know I'll settle down one day / But 'til then I like it this way it's my way
4.) Kelis - Caught Out There
Yeah, while I don't condone blowing up people's cars or putting your ex in the hospital, screaming I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW will certainly help blow off some aggression. Best line? So sick of your games / I'll set your truck to flames / And watch it blow up, blow up
5.) Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl
Again, while I don't condone killing your ex, but this good ole country song can certainly help ease the frustration. This song/video were controversial as it depicts women killing a man who hit his wife, and well, country folk don't really like that. Best line? We'll pack a lunch / And stuff you in the trunk Earl / Well is that all right?
6.) Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
While this isn't as bitter as You Oughtta Know, it certainly makes me feel a little bit better. There's something about listening to this song in an over-sized hoodie and spinning around pointlessly like Natalie in the video that just make me perk right up. Best line? Well you couldn't be that man I adored / You don't seem to know / Or seem to care / What your heart is for
7.) Nelly Furtado - Maneater
Ah yes, Maneater. The best song to listen to when you're feeling a bit down and need to be reminded how fucking awesome you are. Dancing around your apartment in a wifebeater while listening to this is highly empowering. Best Line? And when she walks, she walks with passion / when she talks, she talks like she can handle it
8.) Fiona Apple - Get Gone
Although there's not a proper video for this, thankfully plenty of people recorded it at various concerts. This song is amazing on so many levels. Mostly because there's piano and cussing. Best line? Nothing to figure out; I gotta get him out / It's time the truth was out that he don't give a shit about me
9.) Sugababes - Hole in the Head
The list wouldn't really be complete with out some Sugababes, would it? It's catchy, it's about girl power, how could we not love this song? It's no Caught in a moment but it's okay. Best line? It's late at night, I'm caught in a groove / I'd kiss my ass before I'm feeling blue
10.) Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Yeah. I put it on here. How could I not! It's I WILL SURVIVE. Duh. Of course it had to be on this list. I still haven't figured out what roller skating has to do with "surviving", but whatever. Best line? You think I'd crumble / you think I'd lay down and die / Oh no, not I / I will survive
What's your favorite break-up song?
