MTV has a new show called Living on the Edge which is basically just the UK version of The Hills. Waiting for my train this morning, I had the privilege of staring at the gigantic advertisement for the show, which featured a handful of scantily clad 18-year-olds lounging by the pool, with the headline, "L.A. lifestyle, Cheshire postcode" hanging above their dyed little heads. I'm not sure why we keep thinking it's a great idea to spotlight the rich, spoiled, completely out of touch with reality children of the world, but hey, why not. I suppose those who are "rating-whores" don't exactly care about ethics. *cough*ITV*cough*
Reading through their Flux profiles on MTV's website, I had some small glimmer of hope for the show as one of the girls, Brooke, is learning to speak Arabic at Cambridge and wants to be a "war correspondent or investment banker in the Middle East". I certainly hope she'll add a bit of diversity in a group that seems to be filled with people who "absolutely love watching Jeremy Kyle!". Gag.
