The Broadsheet reports that the Language Log has put together an archive of the various online discussions and mentions all of the people out there who hate the word "moist". Apparently this word makes most women cringe. For example, there's even a Facebook group called "I HATE the word MOIST" that declares: "If the very word "moist" make you cringe every time you hear it, this group is for you. asdfjhdskaljfhldskfds;dsfkhdsafds;jgkdfjhg UGHHHH! Please, dictionaries, remove it from the English language if you have any decency."
Wow. That's some serious hate. While most women won't say why they " OMG asdfkdngid HATE IT", Carol Lloyd point out that, "The word "moist" straddles the same cultural polarities of shame and openness that still haunt modern female sexuality." Let's be honest, the M-word automatically sounds like it should be followed with the word "panties". (Another one of my hated words.) It's a word that's associated with female sexual arousal, and therefore taboo and cringe-worthy. Oddly enough, I can say the word "erection" or even "ejaculation" without shuddering, but "moist" makes my skin crawl. How sad is that?
